Storytelling Rotation - kai - 04-18-2013

I'd like to institute a regular rotation of player-storytelling. I loved it on Chicago; not only did it keep things active on multiple schedules, it got people opening up their RP to new players, new STs, and new experiences. Personally, I'd never had the chance to have so many different STs and I'd never had the chance to ST for so many different players, so it was basically awesome.

In Werewolf on this site, the Player-ST rotation can be a one-off hack-n-slash (or... bite-n-claw, since this is WtA and not DnD), it can be a short storyline (3 sessions or so), it can be an extended ritual... there's really a lot of fodder in the umpteen canon materials, and for each story hook that the people at White Wolf wrote, there's a hundred more ideas in all our fancy brains. So I would really like to see some of those happen in a very low-pressure, high-reward way for everyone here.

A few notes:
  • Signing up is not mandatory. It is encouraged, though, especially if what's holding you back is the thought that what you want to do isn't similar to what anyone else is doing. That's what I want. (Remember the whole 'Diversity of Play' thing?)
  • You earn XP by STing, and you earn more XP when your players email me with kudos for you.
  • If you play your own PC in a one-off or storyline you ST, your character will not be gaining renown for their badassery. Gotta draw the line somewhere.
  • When you sign up, commit to it. If you can't make a scene you've scheduled or things come up (as things do), try to trade slots with someone or reschedule.
  • ...I'll come up with more notes as we go and as i remember things I meant to write. Big Grin

Which leaves us the first major question: how often should this rotation be rotating? We aren't a large community right now, and I don't want people getting burnt out. So! Vote in the above poll, if you haven't already. Post reasoning if you have it.

I voted for biweekly. Weekly, iirc, was kinda too much -- eventually it kinda seemed to burn itself out, and died off. Monthly might be too little, though. So, biweekly! Big Grin

RE: Storytelling Rotation - CourtCat - 04-19-2013

Chances are, I'm willing to run something (though I don't tend to do much with fighting, tbh - I like discovery, magic and mindfuckery) whenever I'm on. However! 'Whenever I'm on' is usually during the day, EST, so doesn't accommodate many people. Just so y'all know!

RE: Storytelling Rotation - errin - 04-19-2013

I agree with the bi-weekly rotation. It's long enough to really sink teeth into a short storyline or series of one-offs, but not so long that a ST would get tired. And having the rotation is a great way to keep things moving in the system.

RE: Storytelling Rotation - kai - 04-19-2013

That's fine! I've seen you playing during the day and that's one of the reasons I want this rotation. There are always going to be people whose greatest availability doesn't match up with the vast majority of other people's. So having someone who will run things during the (North American) daytime is going to be good!

RE: Storytelling Rotation - kai - 04-21-2013

Closing this poll! Looks like biweekly won by a landslide.

Time to start signing up! Post here if you want to be added to the rotation! The more people that sign up, the more time we all have in between our timeslots to plan. And, y'know... to have lives. Remember: it doesn't have to be anything major. It just has to be something you're interested in running for other people. See how simple that is?

Big Grin

RE: Storytelling Rotation - Howl - 04-22-2013

I'd totally be down to run some scenes. Only thing is, it's been forever and a day since I did WtA combat, and I'm a little rusty with the mechanics, so I'd like to be bumped down the list a couple slots if possible? Just so I can re-acquaint myself with the system before I jump into ST-ing.

RE: Storytelling Rotation - errin - 04-22-2013

I volunteer as tribute!

I don't have any SL stuff in mind, so it'll probably be a few random one-offs with whoever's around until I, too, get better acquainted with any changes to the updated W20 system.

RE: Storytelling Rotation - matt - 04-22-2013

You can stick me in, I'll try to do something.

RE: Storytelling Rotation - Damon - 04-22-2013

I'd love to participate, but tbh my schedule's pretty crazy in late spring/early summer. I'll probably sign up for the second round!
