Truth be told, these gatherings are not her favorite thing in the world. Especially not tonight. The only good thing about them is that they tend to drive her ghostly ex into hiding.

King and Pawn howls, raising the voices of totem spirits -- eerie, alien things -- and again Ruby has reason to question what she's even doing here.

Fighting worse monsters, comes an answer. Avery's carrying the skull of one she helped kill, after all. There is some pride in that.

She looks to Javed as he howls, adding his to the many -- Javed whose lack of doubts she envies -- then lifts her jackal-head to the sky and joins him.
