Split Actions + Rage Actions - kai - 06-15-2013

There's been a question milling around every time I get into a combat scene about whether or not Denver WtA is going to allow split actions and rage actions within the same turn. Some past sites have allowed it, others have not, the books have previously left some wiggle room, admins have had various house rules, and so on. The 20th anniversary edition (WtA20) states pretty clearly, however, that characters can either split actions or spend rage for extra actions. The actual text reads:

Quote:A Garou can spend up to have his permanent Rage in a single turn, but cannot also split his dice pools in order to get even more actions within that time. [p. 266]

Since many of us got used to being able to split actions and spend rage in the same turn, then got used to not being able to, this is one of those rulings that I really want player feedback on. I have my own opinions, but ultimately my concern boils down to: what will be the most fun for the greatest number of players the majority of the time? Which inherently (if not shockingly) means: not everyone is going to be happy all of the time no matter what we do as a group. But I don't even know what people's opinions are on this, so I have to ask.

Please answer the poll in this thread at your earliest convenience. If you feel comfortable posting your reasoning here, I'd love to read it. If you want it to be private, email me at werewolf [at] denver [dot] com and tell me what you think.

Caveats: I may not make a decision based on the majority vote here, if only because as the player base changes and grows, what the 'majority' finds enjoyable is also going to evolve. I may end up offering other options if I think of them or they're suggested and I like them. It's also possible that whatever we end up going with, we may realize later on that it needs to change. But I will try to do what I think is best for the system and what I believe fits with the overall goals of the site. In that vein, if you're having trouble deciding what to vote for, ask yourself what you, just by your lonesome, enjoy the most. It doesn't matter if intellectually you think it's balanced or fair or unfair or whether other people like it: I'm asking what you all find FUN. So focus on that if you're not sure what to vote for.

I took a stand! But ultimately, I'm happy to go along w/ whatever the admin decides will benefit the game most.

I have always interpreted the rule in that the first, non-rage action can be split but that no actions gained with Rage can be split up. That being the case, I went with "allow both" meaning that.

Bumping this too! Making a final decision and combat guide soon.

RE: Split Actions + Rage Actions - errin - 06-26-2013

I like to roll all the dice and kill all the things! Combat is my jam, and I love my combat-wombats. That said, while I prefer splitting regular actions and allowing rage actions on the same turn, I, too, will be happy with whatever the Admin decides is best for the system and game balance.
