calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - errin - 10-17-2013

[my apologies for not getting this up sooner! Phoebe at least would want to call this meeting together before the moot, however I am totally okay with having this take place whenever it concludes. That said: Kai has tentatively scheduled the dungeon crawl for Friday, 10/25. I would like to have this thread to some manner of conclusion by Wednesday, maybe Thursday at the very very latest but I will be chasing people around with sticks if it goes on that long. I want to keep this to the Alphas to try and keep it nice and trim and quick.]

Night comes faster in the Mile High City, and it's night time when the Alphas of four of the youngest (to this city at least), most active packs gather together. They meet in the basement of Phoebe's gallery on Santa Fe, which by now has been closed for a few hours. The Fury is waiting at the door for them to let them in. The main gallery is small, close, intimate feeling. There are a few stands with pottery and ceramics on display along with lovely handmade jewelry. There are paintings and collages and things adorning the walls and square-shaped pillars.

Once they're all there, she leads them to a back room. There's a set of stairs that lead down, wide and rickety wooden, with a rail against the wall and nothing between the steps and the air to the right. If they peek down they can see: stacks of unglazed earthenware on shelves that are coated in a fine layer of clay dust. The basement level extends further beyond their line of sight, but Phoebe doesn't take them there.

She takes them to a small back room with a small table where the four of them can sit together around a square black card table on simple, slightly cushioned folding chairs. It's been scrubbed clean for this occasion, fairly short-noticed as it is.

She - she and Javed that is - they have gathered the others here because they are all the ones who want to go down beneath the lower levels of 1999 Broadway.

"Avery, Ms. Illeshazy, and we," Phoebe gestures between herself and Javed just as soon she's settled one a chair, getting immediately to the point, "spoke with Warning Threshold just before he was taken to Forgotten Questions. He told us about what's down below and, it's not what we, well I, thought it was." A quick glance cut to Javed, and the Fury folds her arms together and leans a little into the card table's edge. "He said to think of it as a mine. Of nightmares within nightmares. He was very insistent that it's not connected to the Beloved Horror's power."

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - jamie - 10-18-2013

All Phoebe has to do to get the Uktena alpha of a pack bound under Fog to come to a meeting in some gallery basement up in the city is to insinuate she has news. Hector would have teleported if he could.

And saying that Hector wants to go down into the lower levels of 1999 Broadway is akin to saying that Hector wants to die screaming in the Deep Umbra someplace where no one will ever find his corpse. He didn't wake up the morning of the warmoot and tell his kinswoman Man I hope I get to volunteer for something reckless and possibly suicidal tonight! At the time it felt a necessary thing and it may be youthful hubris but he really seems to think his merry band of misfits is the best suited to sneak in first and see what's going on.

It means they get to pull back and let the war packs run in first if there's something there needs destroying. Strategy.

Anyway: Hector goes to the address and he follows Phoebe into the basement and he eyes the card table and he waits until Erich opts to sit until he sits himself.

"It's not connected," he repeats. Like to make sure he's committing this to memory properly. "Because Cold Crescent's been keeping them from it, or...?"

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - Damon - 10-19-2013

"No," Erich says musingly, "as in their power is because they have some other deal with the devil going. They just want what's under Cold Crescent because they'd be able to raise even more hell, 'cause there's like this interdimensional porthole of doom there." Pause. "At least that's what she tells me the Warder told her."

And he thumbs in Eva's direction. Because, yeah. Erich brought Eva along. Also, Charlotte and Melantha, claiming if asked that they were all Alphas. Apparently they have a flat pack hierarchy over in the Republik of Baklavas.

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - Samael - 10-19-2013

When Erich shows up with the whole of his pack with him, claiming that they are all Alphas, Javed looks somewhat less-than-pleased and, frankly, a little wary. He asks that, even if that are all Alphas, one of the pack join them in the discussion so that they can keep this meeting as brief and on-track as possible.

Once that is settled (however it does), he settles into his seat and lets the others speak. He speaks up after Erich makes his point.

"Warning Threshold-rhya's point was that he did not believe what lay below was connected to the Beloved Horror's extra power. But Ms. Illeshazy..." He's almost gotten that pronunciation of Ms. down; he's been practicing it. "...pointed out--and I noted as well--was that the Warder had some level of doubt. He could not be sure and was not. What he did know was that the portal was a way to summon, as he put it, 'Not mere spirits, nor minions of the Wyrm, but creatures unknown to our oldest Theurges.' And he was adamant that it needed to remain protected from them, a task which I believe now falls upon us, as he noted that the elders of Forgotten Questions are considering abandoning Cold Crescent."

A moment's pause there, before he continues. "He provided a way for us to gain true blueprints of the building through Richard York. Those should be obtained so that they can be looked over and we can know the layout below, because I still believe that we should go. We must ensure that it is in fact secure, even if it is simply to check and see and leave it there."

"As to the Beloved Horror's power, Warning Threshold-rhya said it is likely connected to the ritual involving the eating of the hearts. That is a matter that, I believe, is already being looked into?"

He looks to Phoebe and Hector then, as their packs were handling that.

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - errin - 10-19-2013

Javed isn't the only one taken aback by the appearance of his entire pack plus another kinfolk. It shows on Phoebe's face when she goes to let in not the one extra person she had planned for, but four. Her confusion melts to concern, however, and the start of the meeting is delayed a little while the Fostern tries to find extra seating. The gallery is not set up for social gatherings, so someone gets her clay-dusty work stool from beside her wheel, and she as host opts to stand instead.

"Their power is connected to their ritual, which we're," she motions to Hector, meaning Desert Oracle and Celduun are working together, "still working on.

"The reason I gathered you all here was to share what we learned and let those who suggested leading a scouting mission," a nod to Hector, "and those who might lead a charge," she looks to Erich and Javed, "discuss going down into the lower levels. I'm not going to say whether it should or should not be left alone, but knowing what's down there certainly changes the objective. Checking the locks would certainly be prudent, especially now that no one is watching the door, as it were."

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - jamie - 10-20-2013

Hector doesn't react to the presence of the rest of Erich's pack and people. He looks at them but does not acknowledge or greet them. He's too busy coming up with solutions to potentially world-ending problems.

Like this. Ready for this? This is brilliant as hell:

"Why don't we just shut the interdimensional doom portal?"

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - Samael - 10-20-2013

Javed nods a little bit at Phoebe's assessment of the situation, his attention then turning to Hector and his idea to shut it down.

"I would assume that had already been tried, but at this point assumptions are probably not best. So it should certainly be considered. Exactly how that might be accomplished however, I am not certain."

He takes in a slow breath, pausing as he considers, and lets it out through his nostrils.

"It is important to distinguish our goal for venturing down. Unless there is an immediate threat, I do not believe we should be tampering with things at this point; this should be primarily reconnaissance with enough martial support so that should there be resistance, we may do our utmost to ensure everyone's safe extraction. We will know more of the physical layout once we obtain the true blueprints, of course."

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - mnemosyne - 10-21-2013

So yes. Erich brings an entourage. Éva arrives on her own. Unaware of the terms and apparently unconcerned by the lack of seating. She prefers to stand. It is dark and she is dressed in a dark, expensive suit. Gray and pinstriped, the only hint of color the sapphire hoops nipped through her ears, the pale, shimmering blue of the silk blouse beneath her jacket.

"I have requested the blueprints from Mr. York," the kinswoman assures them, quietly. "You will have them before whatever mission you undertake. Though there is no guarantee that they will correspond to the path you take if you approach from the Other Side. Before you go, you should decide which approach you intend to take. Physical or - "

She is not cutting herself off. Quite simply, she does not have proper words for the umbra. Cannot know it, has never experienced it except as that deep and sometimes terrifying otherspace that allows them to appear where they will and without warning. The sudden displacement of air, the assertion of another physical, animal presence where there was none but a moment before.

Hector's suggestion is enough to draw her dark gaze, though.

And even, the rare edge of an almost smile.

--

Charlotte, meanwhile. Well, Javed wants to ensure that just one person per pack speaks. Charlotte seems extraordinarily disinclined to speak in the first place but shows up with Erich because - well, they are a republic. Kind of. Erich doesn't understand things she understands, and vice-versa. If Melantha has accompanied them, the creature stands all adolescent awkward and strangely protective and close to her. Otherwise, she's right at Erich's shoulder as if the pair of them were joined at the hip.

Charlotte listens. Does not say anything, to anyone, not even to Erich, not even in his head. Not yet.

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - kai - 10-21-2013

When Javed tells Avery about the upcoming meeting, it makes her brow quirk. They discuss it. The little kin-inclusive pack living in the mountains isn't the only one with a somewhat flat heirarchy and no obvious 'Alpha'. And Avery expresses -- to Javed -- some opinions. But as she understands it, they are making a battle plan, and she refrains from attending. Javed, she trusts, will pass along anything new and noteworthy. Javed, she trusts, will not commit them to anything truly mad.

Javed, she trusts.

--

Melantha is absolutely there. She feels out of place and she isn't sure what's going on but they're a pack now, and when Javed looks less-than-pleased and wary, the young Fury whose blood sings with as strong a voice as that of the Silver Fang who stands beside her straightens her shoulders and stands just a little taller, almost daring the Fostern Ahroun to just try and tell her to keep her mouth shut if she has something worthwhile to say, something to add, an idea. They're a republic because none of them stand quite as strong alone as with each other. They're a republic because none of them can speak for the others.

Granted: she doesn't really know what's going on or how one might go about shutting down an interdimensional doom-portal. So she stands, lean arms crossed over her chest, shoulder to shoulder with Charlotte, and they stand right with Erich, and the thrum of their totem stands whole and complete around them, as evident as the still-healing marks of the most recent rite of bonding stand out glaring and red on Melantha's knuckles.

They are a pack. Even if two are silent, they are one.

RE: calling on the Alphas [attn: Javed, Hector, Erich] - errin - 10-22-2013

"We could do both," says Phoebe in response to Eva, looking to the kinswoman before turning her gaze to Javed and then Hector. "Divide into two groups, one to scout the physical, one to see what's on the other side. My pack and I can do the spiritual recon," she suggests, along with, "with however many martial wolves you think we might need."
