On Friday, when she gets the message from Sera (the last one, though she doesn't yet know this) she tells Whitney that she's got to go out. Having the DMV trace a hacking attempt back to her apartment would be less than ideal at this time. But she promises to be back soon. Ish. There's no telling how long this could take.
Normally, something like this would make her anxious. Cracking is a dangerous hobby, not to be taken lightly. This time? It's survival. This time she literally has nothing left to lose. There are no moral acrobatics necessary to whitewash this.
She's got an asshole to find.
It takes some time driving around Aurora, looking for a wifi hotspot without registration and low defenses. It takes less time to crack into the DMV records. It was, in a word, simple.
But what she finds on that license plate makes her punch her dashboard in a sudden burst of violent anger. That little shit. Of course. The license plate record she received has a note on it. The plates were stolen.
And there, the trail ends.
Those snakes really know how to cover their tracks.
Grace thinks to herself, she should take notes...
