We've been getting a lot of rain in Denver the last few days (which, for a Midwestern transplant like me, has been AWESOME). At least, it's a lot for high plains desert. Usually when it rains in Denver, it blows through very quickly. We had pea-sized hail at my office yesterday morning for about ten minutes, then less than an hour later the sun was out. When I left work it was raining again, five miles north it was just starting to look a little sunny, and by the time I got home the sun was out in full force.
Since I know a lot of our players aren't in plains areas, I wanted to share with you guys what rain here typically looks like. Mostly because it's cool and awesome, the weather here is one of my favorite things about this place. This is a pic I took near NCAR in Boulder.

As you can see, it hadn't started raining where I was yet, but it was clearly raining in the distance, and you can see through the rain to the clouds on the other side. When it rains in Denver, this is what it looks like anywhere that you can see a lot of open sky, which is most of the city.

That's gorgeous. Reminds me of what it looked like when I drove through southern Wyoming on my way to Chicago!

There's going to be another front coming your way. We just had a second fun thunderstorm and shower hug the Wasatch Mountains all this afternoon and evening.
As we know, what weather happens in SLC likes to happen in Denver some 20 hours later.

Woo it's the rainy season! Which means it generally is awesome throughout the morning and then around 1-2pm it gets dark out, and then it rains from around 3-4 and stops for the rest of the day.
Here's a panorama I tried to make from Babi Yar park today so you can see how it goes from really overcast/rainy in the north-ish (the left), to a bit of sky in the distance in a more southerly direction (the right side).

Also! I found some pics from one of my old apartments. Because the rain falls in sections and not over the city overall, we get lots of rainbows. Like this. My camera couldn't get all of it, but it was literally a double rainbow, all the way. [Edit: Oh! I guess I took a video of it!]

Okay I'm going to stop gushing about Denver's weather now. I just love it so much, you guys. I love that when it rains it looks like the sky is melting. That's not something that you can generally see in the Midwest.

hahah because (I can trust you guys not to stalk and kill me, right?) a line of trees is the only border between the park and the parking lot of my complex.
