In the meantime I have discovered one lone unsecured network sometimes (SOMETIMES) appears on my radar and I can occasionally steal so I may occasionally be e-mailing and forums-posting so there. Also: why have all my neighbors secured their wireless? I used to have awesome neighbors from whom I could borrow some interwebs on the regular. (grump)
