Pot and Voodoo - kai - 01-02-2014 Westword (a weekly magazine... newspaper... thing) has a column called Ask a Stoner. They've had it for some time, but this week's issue wasn't for questions, it was to run down the retail marijuana rules from the perspective of someone who actually partakes. It's actually pretty useful: http://www.westword.com/2014-01-02/news/retail-marijuana-in-denver/ And in totally unrelated-to-ganja news, there's also a Voodoo Doughnut in Denver now. On Colfax. Because of course it is. RE: Pot and Voodoo - jamie - 01-03-2014 I live in the wrong city... RE: Pot and Voodoo - kai - 01-03-2014 You all do. RE: Pot and Voodoo - Damon - 01-05-2014 okay am i the only one that was a little O_o at the blackface donut-gingerbread-people? D: AND OF COURSE THERE'S BACON DONUTS. fucking hipsters and their baconing. RE: Pot and Voodoo - kai - 01-05-2014 I did some Googling and no: you are definitely not the only one to go 'wtf' at that. And suffice it to say, due to my well-ingrained white privilege I was pretty "what? wait, no!" at first but... yeah. There's some definite things to be O_o about. I'm interested in the idea of getting Voodoo Doughnuts to make it up to the world by funneling some of the cash they've made from cultural appropriation and 'ironic' racism into charity. http://www.hopeforhaiti.com/ would be a good organization. Letter-writing campaign, anyone?
RE: Pot and Voodoo - Damon - 01-06-2014 i think we should just go hire k-stew to do this in front of their shops. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Pot and Voodoo - errin - 01-06-2014 *sigh* K-Stew is my forever girl ♥_♥ I didn't have any plans to go to Voodoo Doughnuts ever, so I guess I shall remain steadfast in my avoidance! RE: Pot and Voodoo - Samael - 01-06-2014 In all fairness to Voodoo Doughnuts, they do give a ton of money to multiple charities and other local organizations, a fair amount more than you would expect for a generally small business. RE: Pot and Voodoo - kai - 01-06-2014 Yes, but I'd like them to do that with acknowledgement of "whoa dudes we totally appropriated a historically marginalized culture and included racist stereotypes in our branding and marketing, we're gonna change all that and as a big 'SORRY Y'ALL' we are also gonna give away a fuckton of money". I know, I know. I'm tough to please. |
