The news goes on as usual. Everything, really, was just a point leading up to the inevitable weather forecast that everyone sat through, waiting on baited breath to come up so people can change back to watching whatever it was they were watching before they decided that knowing the weather report in Denver was important.
An attractive Vietnamese woman stood outside of an apartment building, the hedges trimmed neatly and the clouded sky gives good, ambient lighting. She walks calmly down the sidewalk. She was wearing a smart grey pants suit with a pink top. Her hair was short and dark and cut in that sort of bob that all TV news people tend to have. Her teeth are immaculate.
"In this lovely apartment complex, no one expects the worst to happen. A break in can be a frightening experience for anyone, but imagine the horror that comes when you find your child has had to live through such a trying time. Cassandra Waltz knows exactly what that feeling is like-"
--
It cuts to a blonde woman in scrubs inside of a hospital. Her eyes are tired and she wears the countenance of someone in the nursing profession.
"It was a shock," she said, "a complete shock to think Makayla was... it was... I'm still in shock. I can't even..."
She pinches the bridge of her nose and then looks away from the camera.
--
The cameras cut back to the lovely reporter, now walking towards the apartment building.
"Makayla Waltz, just eighteen, was taking a nap after school when she heard an intruder entering through that very window. Waltz defended herself and was able to hold off her would-be attacker until police arrived. Now, while this story has a happy ending many others do not; authorities still hold firm that, in the event of a break in the safest option is to dial 911 and extricate yourself safely from the situation if at all possible.
"I'm Vanessa Truong, back to you Linda."
