Patience's hand on her shoulder doesn't calm. There is nothing calming about being touched out of the blue. She jumps noticeably, and puts fingers to her eyes to rub them as she forces herself to relax again. She smiles back at Patience. It's not her fault. Discomfort comes with the territory that is Grace, even though this new body doesn't tingle with pins and needles nearly as much.
"Okay, okay, I'll shut up," she says, but it's in a joking tone of voice. Patience is right. Probably not the best idea to get these people all riled up.
She listens as the others speak, as they lay out the truth. We're not from this world, but we're not from your earth either. It seems like such a bad idea to go for broke and just tell them everything. Like, what would the Denver PD suspect if the three of them were stuck in a drunk tank and telling everybody they came from another universe? Probably weed. Okay, so plan B is to claim that they all ate some magic berries out there in the forest, and man is that some good shit you ought to try...
"We're not from this entire universe," Grace says. "We're from earth, yes, but when we were born, earth was the only planet a human could have come from. I get that that's a bad thing as far as your people are concerned, but we really didn't have much of a choice in the matter."
