It really had been a while since Alexander had any contact with Sid. She had headed off to... Russia, was it? He hadn't heard when she'd arrived back in town - the only reason he'd known was Grace's message when Sid, Kalen and Ian had been trapped in another world. So he'd visited her a couple of times - leaving a little gift the first time - until she suddenly vanished after discharging herself from hospital.

Alexander knew bits and pieces of what had happened while she had been trapped in that other world - and that relations between Sid and Kalen had headed for the arctic. So he'd been assuming that Sid just needed some time away from everything to get her head back in order. But it's just been so long since he'd heard of anyone having contact with her.

So, assuming her phone is charged, on, and her number hasn't changed, she'll get a text message.

Hey. Hope you're keeping ok. How's the cactus? Need anything?

It's a good thing the one time Sid and Alex occupied the same environment (consciously) the officer left behind a card, or he would never receive a reply.

As it is, one comes a few hours after his message went winging out into the world:

Not exactly an auspicious reply, but he carries on with the text-based conversation.

The hospital signs said no flowers so I left you a cactus while you were

Alex thinks for a moment of how to word it.

She does not respond saying that she doesn't remember a cactus, or that all impressions of that room were washed away by panic and distress.

What he gets is:

It must have been left behind. Sorry.

And then, because his initial text contained more than an inquiry about a cactus: I've been better, but I don't need anything. You?

Still trying to work out this mindfuck of a life? Wondering if Seattle wasn't really all that bad? Swinging between wanting to hide away from the world and save it?

I'm fine. Still feeling things out, but getting there slowly. And no, I don't really need anything either. Just wanted to see how you are. If you feel like some company, give me a yell.

It's not until she hits 'send' that she realizes she means it.

Sometime later, minutes, hours, days, whatever, Alex receives:

I'm going to Ogden St So late Friday. If you feel like going out you should come.
