Most of you guys probably noticed that Kai is making some changes to the dice system for WtA. Namely, that the rule of 1s has been altered so that 1s no longer cancel out successes (though botches are still possible if you roll no successes and get at least a single 1.)
Before making up my mind about what I'd like to do in the Mage system, I wanted to find out from you guys if this is a change you'd like to see implemented here. Personally, I'm in favor of keeping the dice mechanics standard across the systems because it's easier on all involved. I also agree that the rule of 1s tends to be pretty aggravating to deal with when using the Jove dice roller. In particular those instances when the dice repeatedly go against logic and realism. Sure a character rolling 8 dice is going to fail once in a while, but it ought to be a rare occurrence and... it's really not. If anything, having more dice just increases the odds of rolling more 1s.
But that's just my personal opinion, and I'd like to find out how other people feel before I rule on it officially. So let me know if you'd like to see this change made here, or if you'd rather stick to the standard revised dice mechanics.

I voted to get rid of ones cancelling sux, but I think if they're rolled with no sux it should still be a botch as stated above. =D

Standardization is goooood.

I agree.
Standard botch rules (no successes and at least a single 1) and to Hell with that 1s canceling successes rule.
If votes go another way though I won't be salty because I don't mind failing or botching or whatever happens because it's all fun.
[ramble]Honestly, you're already so likely to roll a 1-5 on a roll anyway, it seems wholly pointless except for the occasional standard botch. Getting rid of it keeps it at a 50/50 chance of success on any die roll.
It makes the rolls a bit more realistic for most mundane tasks.
Crazy me says: Everything's still random and maybe it's just the Universe nearing its end as entropy accumulates and all our fates devolve and decay. Then I realize some of the best stories and posts I've read we're the result of failure and botch. Are we just too afraid of failing when the result of most activities are just that?
Or maybe our little ball of dirt is in the midst of a cosmic demonstration of the infinite monkey theory, and in any part or parts of an infinite sequence you can get nothing but 1s for(what seems like)ever. I don't know if this is the Jove roller's fault or what, as I was rolling real dice to demonstrate the problem to a friend and rolled nothing but botches and fails with a pool of 6.
Maybe I was just unlucky.[/ramble]
I voted to get rid of them cancelling suxx, but definitely keep botches because there still needs to be that chance for epic failure in general, and paradox for this system specifically.
If the Jove dice rolled fewer 1s and more numbers over 5 it would be a completely different story. But it's so disheartening to roll 3+ suxx and then fail anyway.

The margin of success is so coarse-ground with the d10 system I've never seen the point in the 1s canceling out successes. Even if you modify the snot out of your target number you've still got a 30% chance of failing whatever you're trying to do. This is how BSDs and Nephandi happen.
Fifthing the motion to keep botches though. Botches are hilarious.

I'm good with it. If you have concerns about the mechanics you could abolish it for a month and then reconsider at the close of the month.
+yes to keeping the botches.

Alright, since we've definitely got a majority I've gone ahead and closed the poll. Once Niko has has implemented a new dice roller, the rule of 1s will no longer be used in this system except where it would indicate a botch.
