[I'm doing it this way, because not everybody has time for scenes (and a scene where the point is installing software might be a bit dull for some). Also, it would probably take months to get to you all if I did this one by one. So, if your character wants to get in on the secure network, post in here!]
Over the course of a few weeks, Grace will be in touch with people. Not via phone, or email, or text, but in the flesh so there is no electronic paper trail. From the Chantry, via word-of-mouth, the message spreads. If you want in, get in.
And what are you getting into?
Well, you'll need some software on your phone, and an invite, but once this is accomplished, you will have user-level access to Ginger -- Team Striped Horse's secure information drop. Calling the number 1-800-FAT-GRLS (Yes, they took over a phone sex line) and using the voice command "Hello, Ginger" will trigger a voice menu (with a sexy voice, Gadfly will make sure to mention) where one can record or listen to voice messages left on the drop. A user will also be able to post a text message to Ginger, and have that message visible to all other users who have access. And what's the benefit to this? Why not just text people?
Texting is insecure, hacked by the NSA, it's plaintext, so whoever has the ability to peek can see the messages immediately. Phone companies have records of who get what texts, so a network of probable Reality Deviants would be trivial to suss out... Not cool.
Grace and Gadfly have worked on this particular project for a while, with Gadfly providing wards against interlopers and being discovered, and Grace providing some of the mundane versions of that (encryption and sneaky track-hiding). It's a way for one to speak to others with some degree of security that what you're saying isn't being listened to by a third-party, which makes sensitive discussions possible from a distance.
Safety first, people!
