The food they ordered sits in paper containers in someone's fridge, probably Sid's. It was the first place she would have gone, after all, once they left the restaurant on Wednesday night. Maybe Sera's with her, maybe she's not. Though Sid would clearly prefer they stay together, that they go and scoop up Grace and Lena, they're all adults. Either they will cluster or they won't. And besides, eventually even she will need to leave and go somewhere else.
That somewhere else is campus, to the science labs to which she still has keys, at least for another week or so until her transfer is complete and they find someone to replace her. To run more tests and find out what she can find out. Sid may be Awakened, she may be able to do some things with magic, but she's still so untried, still knows so very little. Her scientific knowledge far surpasses her abilities as a mage, and so it's that which she will be relying on.
She has to work quickly. She doesn't know how fast this thing is going to attack her, or what she can expect from it. As soon as she knows all that she can find out, both from magic and from her own tests, she starts working. That first try, she flubs it, taints the sample. She has to try again. Another sample removed from her own arm, and she's at it again, all through that first night and into the morning when she heads straight to work.
They send her home almost immediately because she looks fucking terrible. Sid had no sleep the night before, and the fever is starting. Her pale complexion has turned ashen, and there are dark circles under her eyes.
"Go home," one of the professors says, playfully swatting at her with a sheaf of papers. Sid offers her a weak smile, but she doesn't resist. She needs sleep. She needs to keep her strength. She has a lot of work to do. But she doesn't stay away for long.
For days she goes into the science labs and she does her own work, blending in with the other lab study students when she can. Hours and hours she toils, tests, tries. Through the weekend if she can. Being careful with the samples, disposing of blood specked tissues after terrible coughing spells. These aren't surprises to her, though, remembering Grace's updates via Ginger. In this way at least she knows what's coming day to day, although she doesn't remember Grace mentioning the nightmares. Maybe like Sid she doesn't remember them, just wakes up in the morning and feels less rested than she should be.
Sid powers on. For herself, for her friends. She keeps going.
