Hope all my fellow United States players had a happy holiday weekend.
This is a reminder that journals are due tomorrow night (the 7th) at midnight site time. If you haven't submitted a journal in a couple months and I don't get one tomorrow your PC will be retired. If that happens and you want to play the PC again just let me know.

'Sup folks! It's been a while, eh?
As you may have noticed, Joey is no longer running the Vampire system. I've gone through and done a massive cleanup, approving journals (and Nate), as well as culling out inactive characters. Here is how it was done:
If you haven't submitted a journal claiming XP since September, your character was retired. If you would like your character to be reinstated, simply drop me a line with the request.
A note about Vampire's three month journal culls:
Just as there's no crying in baseball, there will be no continuity journals in Vampire. These auto-culls are in place to help Admins easily move through journal time, but they're also here to give prospective players a better idea of a system's activity level. If a PC hasn't been played in four months but has submitted continuity journals, that's just as much of an inflation of numbers as if they hadn't turned one in at all. So, make sure you claim your XP!
I did make a few exceptions since this is the first time instituting this change, so if you didn't turn in a journal but someone else claimed they played with your PC I tried to include that. However, it's my first time doing journals, so if I goofed, drop me a line. You can send them to the Director's email or the Vampire one, they'll both be going to me until we get a new Vampire Admin.

Hey, guys!
So as Liz posted, I've agreed to take on Vampire for a while. I love the system and I know all y'all so hopefully this will be a good thing.
I'd like it if those of you who have active characters in the system could toss me a journal entry, basically stating what sort of goals -- general or specific -- your PC has been working towards over the past few months and how -- generally or specifically -- they've been working towards them. Make this journal a moodpost or a pretend diary entry or whatever creative vehicle helps get the words out, or just drop me a simple out of character run-down, because that's cool, too. Once you do this, I'll be contacting y'all via e-mail or PMs with some results or flavor or story hooks or something cool. If there's a scene you really want to play out with whatever kind of NPC, let me know.
I'd also like it if you guys could send me an e-mail, PM, or even just IM me about what kind of stories you'd like to play. I'm sure most of you are like 'Mm, but Jess, you already know this,' but reiteration never hurts! And it's a new year, so tell me what you want. Touch base. Whatever medium is most comfortable for you. The email is bone dot lyre at gmail until further notice.
I'll be moving Jack and Lux to NPC status for the duration of my administration for a few reasons. 1. The game is really tiny, and it isn't fair of me to play two pretty ambitious-active characters as. 2. I love both of them, but I want my focus to be on making things fun for you guys. Don't worry, that will be fun for me too. Both characters will still be bopping around, doing their thing, and if your PC needs or wants one of them for anything, that's fine. That's great! I will totally enjoy NPCing them on occasion. They just will no longer be my Vampire RP focus. If your PC counts them as an ally or a contact, nothing's changed.

Clarification Above since it's actuall come up: Slaughter is also still around for contacting if somebody has a reason to contact her, but is rocking the NPC outfit.
New House Rule!
Allies & Retainers. We like 'em. They're useful. They do things for us if we ask them the right way. Now, not only can they do things, but they can get better at doing things!
NPC Allies will gain 1 XP per use. A use constitutes a story, so texting Jack Black down at the local precinct three separate times doesn't net him extra XP. If an NPC Ally takes on an integral role in something your PC is doing, more XP may be awarded that NPC at STs discretion.
NPC Retainers will gain 1 XP per month your PC is in play. Once again, if the NPC Retainer is really utilized and takes on a key role, another XP may be awarded at STs discretion. E.G.: If Doctor Who, Malkavian Extraordinaire w/ Obfuscate 3 obv, has Companion Clara and Doctor Who has been played for two months, Doctor Who's player will have 2 XP to spend upgrading Clara's sheet. If Doctor Who has been played for three months, and in the third month really put Clara through her paces what with [spoiler] being the most important person in all of time and space [is that a spoiler, Doctor Who Fans? Or are all of the Doctor's companions now the most important person in all of time and space?], used her in a number of scenes and/or Clara performed in some extraordinary way, at STs discretion another XP point may be added to the NPCs haul.
If you don't submit a journal that month, no Ally/Retainer XP. If you retire a character and bring them back later on, no Ally/Retainer XP for the months your character is retired.
When you want to spend that XP, just drop me a note and a journal. It's not transferable to PCs, but it's nice to have Good At Things Friends, right?
Last but not least, I'll be passing out the Ally/Retainer XP retroactively, so if you have either of these backgrounds on your sheet and you want to make sure I give Mr or Ms NPC the right amount of XP, you could drop me a journal or PM with the number of months your character has been in play & the number of months _____ (Ally/Retainer) has been attached to your PC.

I'm moving across country on Monday. I shan't have Internet until June, but I shall be reachable by e-mail and if we have e-mail scenes going to resolve whatever storyline please post in them ASAP. I know some of you would like to have your characters talk about Things That Have Occurred, and that can't happen without resolution!
As far as journals go, I've talked to a few of you about this over AIM, but now here it is in announcement print: No due date on journals. When you have a journal-worthy chunk, or decide you want to claim a scene or a moodpost or what-have-you, just toss the journal up. I check regularly and if I hear about something might bestow XP w/ out a journal. If the system suddenly explodes and gets huge we'll revisit the "by the 7th" thing, but until then, this is how we'll do it.
New House Rule: Auspex 2 Aura Scans will now be Diff 7 instead of Diff 8.

Naw, just posting to give this thread a bit of a bump. I still don't have internet at home but with second roommate who is QUITE anxious for this to be a thing, it's only a matter of time! Remember, I'm always reachable via e-mail (yay, phones with dataplans) for any quick questions.

EXTRA XP? FOR ME?
Hey, y'all!
How'dja like to earn double the XP for but one thing? If you write me a solo post (or, I suppose, you could play a scene instead, but these take longer!) and post it up in the IC forum (or e-mail it to me, or direct me to its location on your scene blog) before August 15th, double XP on that post/scene for you! The only rule besides 'posted or linked to by August 15th' is it should be a slice of 'this is how X keeps the Masquerade/works to keep the Masquerade/does a thing WHICH FALLS UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE MASQUERADE HEE SILLY MORTALS THEY KNOW NOTHING.' If you are playing a silly mortal, a slice of life re: not thinking about the supernatural ramifications of X is also acceptable.
Basically: I woke up, I thought "I wonder how these Vampire PCs are keeping up the ol' Masquerade - I know, I'll ask the players to show instead of tell me, with incentive!" So enjoy the incentive. If you want!

Hark, Players of VtM!
Two announcements.
1. If you are interested in playing a Sabbat character, yay! But I am putting them on the Restricted List, w/ Lasombra and Tzimisce are both being put on the "Probably Not" list. What does this mean? It just means if you want to play a member of the Sabbat, talk to me about it and be prepared to work with me on your character concept before submitting. If a couple people want to play a pack of Sabbat, talk to me about that. It's not a definitive no, but be prepared for a no.
2. Domain: The Background Adjustment.
Had a talk with a player about Domain and decided to House Rule some things.
I am breaking the background into two. Domain: Size & Domain: Security. Easier to keep track of what you've plunked in what and if you want to buy up Security later on (or Size, if you're expanding your base of operations), then you don't have to get ridiculous w/ the cost expenditures. If you do decide to build up Security, I'm going to ask for rolls and/or RP, because there's no reason a Vampire who doesn't have access to high Tech/Security/Wits/Larceny/Intelligence/whatever seems suitable for the making of X Domain Secure (I am open to persuasion re: the stats needed) should be able to make it secure. Access can, of course, be a skilled Ally or Retainer or Contact.
I'm also adding a house background, 'Haven Security,' for how secure specifically the place your Vampire (or Mortal or Ghoul) sleeps at night has been made. You aren't required to have it and a Vampire can obviously have a haven within their Domain, and be somewhat protected by the Domain's security (depending on what that security is). Haven Security is the last (or first, if you don't actually have Domain, but have your Haven on someone else's turf) line of defense.
