For some, it was hard to find themselves in a new city, starting again. But for others, it was the challenge that rose from the mundane tasks such as setting up lines of communication and finding a place to call ‘home’, to making a network of people you can rely on and enjoy the company of, to figuring out what the rest of your life has to do with you on a personal level. He’d so far managed to cover all those small details and put himself into college to go with it. He hadn’t thought he’d be able to do it, hell; it was only an idea for so long of his life that he wasn’t one hundred percent sure that he’d be able to do it at all! But he’d enrolled after sorting out the other stuff first, and now he was elbow deep in learning. He’d picked up all of the books that were required for this term alone, he’d read up on past papers and while he wasn’t completely confident that he’d pass the entire course, he was marginally confident that he’d not fall flat on his face the first time he walked into a class there.
When he walked in, he did it quietly and casually, sitting up at the back with a tablet that he aimed at the boards and a small camera as well to film the lesson; that way he could review the lesson, he’d save it at home and run through them as study aids as well as revision aids if need be. Armed with those, he was almost sure he wouldn’t miss anything important, and like all the things he did, he immersed himself into it fully, for the past week since thanksgiving he’d been at home, hardly seen around the city even a week before then as he’d been busy sorting out joining the course in the first place. But now he had his TV set to record the midnight showings of science shows he wanted to catch, all of it based upon cosmology and all of it so he could absorb everything as if he were a sponge. He made sure he had food in, from the mundane study snacks to the makings of Chili, curries and roasts. With those he’d be able to just crack on with his learning.
Now finally he was in his first class, absorbing, writing what he could when he could and following the pattern that he could see unfolding before him.
