Hey guys! I know that Halloween is a few weeks away yet, but I'd like to put out a general call for storytellers who are interested in running some Halloween-themed one-shots this month.

I am planning to run something myself, but I know that a lot of folks get really inspired by Halloween and I thought it might be really cool if we made it, like, a thing. What I'm thinking we could do is basically have each ST schedule a one-shot at some point during the month, and then players can have a few different scenes to choose from - hopefully during different scheduling blocks so that everyone who wants to play gets a chance to do so. Different themes would be cool too. Maybe some can be more fun/light-hearted where others are creepy and/or dangerous.

If a lot of STs volunteer, I think one scene each would be good. If it's just a couple of us, we could maybe do a couple scenes each. Whatever ends up working out best. In particular, I'd love it if someone could run something during daytime hours and/or on the weekend, so the players who have that availability will get to participate.

So how about it guys? Who wants to run a thing?

[Edit: And just to clarify, no one needs to feel obligated to do any more than they're comfortable doing. So if that's just one scene with two people in it, that's totally fine. If it's a giant 8-person brawl, that is also okay. You do you, man.]

"When we lose our myths we lose our place in the universe."
-Madeleine L'Engle

Hey guys! With the conclusion of the first part of the Ouroboros SL, I have a little interlude planned that's going to kick off my second storyline. This SL will be different from that one in a lot of ways. It's going to focus on adventuring and mythic elements, and will be broken up into periodic chapters.

The first chapter will most likely be happening the week of the 20th through the 26th, and it will involve umbral travel. I'm planning to run at least 3 scenes back-to-back (possibly with pauses, if they're necessary) so anyone who signs up for this should be aware that it will require pretty much a week-long commitment (though it doesn't have to actually take the entire week if you have a day in there that doesn't work.) It might work out to only 3 days, but I suspect it will go a little long, as these things tend to do.

I am restricting participation for each chapter of this SL to no more than 2 PCs. However, I have a lot of chapters planned, so anyone who wants to get involved totally can, provided we can make scheduling work. Future chapters will be set in all kinds of locations and deal with different challenges and NPCs, so I will try to select scenarios that I think the characters involved might have fun with. The one caveat is that this SL is one of those stories that sort of requires the PCs to actively choose to participate, so it might be a little more difficult to rope in those who don't have much personal motivation. But that said, if anyone really wants to participate but needs some help motivating their character, let me know and I'll see what I can think up. Initially I'll probably be handling the whole 'drawing other characters into the story' thing by just having someone already involved be like "hey, do you want to help us with this thing?"

The chapters of this SL will be intermittent. I'll be running them when I have the time and motivation, so there will probably be long breaks between them. As far as this chapter goes, I'm also restricting it to characters who have at least Spirit 2, since it will take place in the umbra (and without Spirit 2, characters would be kind of hopelessly limited in that environment.) If you don't make it into this one, don't worry. There will be lots more chances in the future.

So! I have two slots to fill. If you'd like to snag one, let me know. And if you'd like to sign up for spots in future chapters, just wave your hand at me and I'll put you on the list.

[And for reference: yes, this is the SL that Henry keeps teasing.]

"It seems to me what is called for is an exquisite balance between two conflicting needs: the most skeptical scrutiny of all hypotheses that are served up to us and at the same time a great openness to new ideas. Obviously those two modes of thought are in some tension. But if you are able to exercise only one of these modes, whichever one it is, you’re in deep trouble."
-Carl Sagan

This SL is going to unfold a bit differently than my previous ones have. It is both broader in scope and less demanding of individual attention. The events of the story will unfold slowly over time, and PCs will be able to choose their level of involvement. I will not be running lots of scenes back to back as I have been known to do (at least, not until the story hits a point of momentum, but that won't likely happen until the end.) Instead, I'd like to snag people for scenes periodically, introducing characters into the story in a gradual, organic way.

This is a long-game story that will ultimately have an impact on the metaplot and the overall world-state. It will involve difficult choices and a questioning of assumptions. There will be conflict, but when and how that conflict arises will depend on how the story plays out. Rather than offering a warning for the overall story, I'd prefer to save more specific warnings for individual scenes.

That said, right now? Scenes will be of a pretty introductory nature. It's really just going to be about introducing characters to the NPCs and doling out back-story. If that sounds a bit boring, that's ok. You can still get involved later when the action picks up. No one is going to be tied into or locked out of participation in this SL. If something sounds interesting, you can jump on board. If not, you can always join a different part of the story later. NPCs are going to be driving the forward momentum of this story, so it will happen regardless of PC involvement. That said, your characters can have an impact (possibly a large one) on how things turn out.

About Scheduling:

I am only really available to run scenes during my evenings (I'm in CST,) with weekends (Sat and Sun) being the least convenient days and Fridays probably being the best ones (though other weeknights are usually fine so long as we can stop by midnight my time.) Worst case scenario, I may be able to run someone a scene via e-mail, but that's a pretty limited work-around. I know my schedule isn't perfect for everyone, so I apologize for that. Additionally, please keep in mind that scenes will probably last at least 4 hours. I typically go 6pm site time to somewhere around 10-12pm site time, depending on the number of players and the depth of the scene. If I know in advance that someone needs to be in bed at a certain point I can try to start earlier and/or keep things short, but 5pm site time is the earliest I can make and 9-10pm is probably the quickest I'll be able to wrap. I would strongly prefer not to have late entrants or early exits in these scenes. Obviously, in case of an emergency I can find a way to make it work, but otherwise it'll be disruptive to the mood and flow of the scene, and depending on the setting it may not work well logistically.

I'm pretty sure I can find ways to get at least these introductory scenes done for everyone who wants them. Beyond that... we'll see. The more people involved in a scene, the less flexible I'll be able to be. And of course, as always, my cap is 4 players per scene - with 1-3 being my preference. When we get to a point where things start actually happening, I will need to divide scenes up in a way that's manageable, but I have a plan for that.

Anyone who's interested can sign up below. You do not have to sign up immediately, if you aren't sure. As I mentioned above, anyone can jump in or out at any point during the run of this SL. And this thing may well take months to wrap, with long down-periods in between scenes. If you have more than one character, it is possible to get them all involved, but you will probably have to pick one that gets the primary focus.

There is definitely the possibility for character harm and/or death; though, as per my usual, most of my scenes save finale scenes are largely non-lethal.

This will probably be the best fit for characters with Spirit or a keen interest in the occult, but anyone should be able to drop into it. I anticipate there will be one or perhaps two introductory scenes (which may or may not be group scenes), maybe a planning scene or two, and then some manner of resolution.

So, as you know, I've decided to pick up the threads of the black orchid plotline that Sam started. I'm at a point now where I'm about ready to start running scenes, so I wanted to open a sign-up for anyone who's interested.

As a warning, the subject matter in this one has the potential to be triggering in a number of different ways. (I mean, we're dealing with vampires here.) It's difficult for me to predict exactly what might happen, but if anyone has any concerns, you're welcome to talk to me. If I know your limits and I think something might come up that you won't want to be around for, I'll warn you.

On a more obvious note, players should definitely expect violence/trauma and a fairly high degree of threat level. PC death is possible. (Though as always, I do try to balance scenes so the odds aren't too overwhelming.)

The tone of this one is pretty dark, over all. So if you feel less-than-enthusiastic about that right now, that's totally cool. I will not blame anyone for wanting to sit this out. My next SL should be pretty different, tonally. So anyone not so into this one might have more fun when that one comes around. That said, anyone who thinks it might be fun to go up against some vampires? Might very well enjoy this. The length of the SL and level of involvement are kind of mutable, depending on where your PCs decide to go with it. But for now, I'd like to just see how many people are interested. Then I can schedule a scene or two and we can go from there.

The length of the SL and level of involvement are kind of mutable, depending on where your PCs decide to go with it. But for now, I'd like to just see how many people are interested. Then I can schedule a scene or two and we can go from there.

I wanted to make a post here so you guys have a general sense of what's going to be happening plot-wise in the game (at least as far as my stuff is concerned.) It's possible that some of this may be subject to change, but this is the basic timeline that I have sketched out so far.

<del>1: The Black Orchid</del>

2: The Silver Crown

Quest-based with a potential reward. The first part of this is going to be Umbral in nature. I will be dividing this one into chapters and running each piece individually as time, inspiration and availability allows.

3: Ouroboros

This story will focus on the Technocracy. It's very much a long-game SL, and will be slow to get going. Initially, a lot of it will probably be rumors and off-camera events. We'll see where it goes from there.

The order in which things are happening:

<del>Reintroduce the Black Orchid SL. Focus on this one until it's at a good stopping point.</del>

<del>Introductions for the Ouroboros SL.</del>

<del>First chapter of the Silver Crown SL.</del>

Misc. Ouroboros set-up and follow-up scenes happening throughout fall/winter.

Halloween Awesomeness (October)

The Silver Crown: Chapter 2 (November)

Break for Winter Holidays

Part 2 of Ouroboros. (January)

(After that, we'll see how things go.)

It probably seems like a lot of stuff is in the works, but the pacing will be moving fairly slow and I'll only be actively running scenes for one plotline at a time. So it shouldn't be too overwhelming.

Hey folks,

I have permission to roll out a new mage storyline, which could turn out to be a very small storyline, or could take things in strange, interesting directions. I don't plan right now to have people sign up for big, multiplayer scenes because I want it to start more organically and kind of slip into the characters' lives.

If you want to 'sign up' you can do so here: but if you have two characters I would prefer that you choose a primary character for purposes of the storyline. Makes it easier for me.

I also have another requirement, which is: if I ST a scene for you, I'll ask you to go out and ask one other person and maybe someone you don't regularly play with to RP sometime in the two weeks thereafter. A kind of pay it forward rule. You don't have to talk about my STed scene (unless it comes up organically) - I just want to encourage connections beyond the standard ones.

My hope is that in the long run this will go to some interesting places philosophically and also give characters options to toss some serious magick around or at least change the frame a bit. Part of where it goes will depend on how the characters interact with NPCs, et cetera.

Anyway - I may actually introduce the first NPC if I see a good open scene already going on and I have some time, so....

PS - This storyline is pretty elastic. If you Go Somewhere Else it will only be for the duration of that scene so, yeah.

The world divides so sweetly, neatly up into the feeder-folk
into their prey.
-Neil Gaiman

Oh look, it's October. You know what that means? SL time.

As I'm sure you can guess from the title and the creepy-ass quote (and the intro scene that I already ran for two of you) this is not going to be a light-hearted SL. There will be horror. There will be gore. There will be violence.

Danger level should be considered high. PC death is a possibility. Scenes may include any number of potentially traumatic circumstances, including the possibility of possession. If you want to be involved but have some concerns over possible triggers, let me know and we can discuss it further.

Right now I have two scenes planned to sort of set the stage. These scenes will need to be small (with just one or two characters each.) After that, it all kind of depends on where the PCs decide to take things? But probably at some point there will be a climactic scene or two, which can take up to 4 or 5 PCs. I don't necessarily want to set a cap on the SL as a whole, since characters may be involved in different ways, but do be aware that when it comes to individual scenes I will need to keep things relatively small.

Anyone who's still interested, let me know below!

Alright, so I have these NPCs, and there is a very loose plot that I started in the Cherry Creek Mall one-shot, but mostly my plan with these guys is to just toss them around and see what happens. I know I've already promised a couple of people scenes, but I wanted to open it up to anyone who might be interested.

The main themes of this SL are anarchy and larceny. So anyone who signs up should be prepared for the possibility of stolen or damaged property.

I'm going to be running these with one or two people at a time, and I'll schedule the scenes around whatever else is going on (I don't want to get in the way of other plotlines.) Basically, I'll be running scenes sporadically, as time and schedules permit. So expect the pacing to be pretty relaxed, and it may take some time before I'm able to get everyone in, depending on how many people sign up.

So anyone who's interested, just let me know and we can go from there!

Hey guys! Looks like it's ST-rotation time for me, so I'm going to be running 2 scenes over the next couple of weeks.

Scene 1: Friday the 8th at 6pm site time
PC Cap: 3
Genre: Action/Caper
Potential for Violence: Eh... depends on your PCs?
Chance of Trauma: Unlikely
Chance of Death: Highly unlikely

Scene 2: Friday the 15th at 6pm site time
PC Cap: 3
Genre: Horror
Potential for Violence: High
Chance of Trauma: Moderate
Chance of Death: Low to Moderate (depending on how things go down)

Given the low player cap, I would prefer to have different characters in each scene, but if you'd like to sign up for both that's cool. Just let me know which is your first choice.

A note about both of these scenes:

There is a high possibility that the NPCs in these scenes will make reappearances. The second scene in particular does have a broader plot-arc attached to it. However, there's no expectation of commitment from you or your characters. I'll be running scenes sporadically over the coming months, so it will probably take a while before things really start moving along. At some point I will probably make a larger post regarding this SL, but for now I just want to run a test-scene and see how things go.

So I thought it might be cool to start a thread for people to post requests for types of ST'd scenes and SLs they'd like to participate in. If an ST happens to see something on the list they'd like to run, they can contact the player(s) in question and set something up (or use it as inspiration for a larger open SL.) And for that matter, if another player sees a request they'd like to get in on, they can drop their name into the hat as well. No one need feel obligated to fulfill requests. This is really just for fun.

Bearing that in mind, I'll start!

I would love to get Ian involved in some kind of espionage-based storyline. The focus being on information and secret-stealing. Particularly if he is able to get said information via stealth and/or charm/manipulation. I know that Noel expressed some interest in involving Grace in this sort of thing as well (more on the technological/hacking side of things.) Grace and Ian super spy team FTW?

I was personally hoping to find a way to lead Ian's character development in this direction, so if there's a possibility of coming away with a new contact at the end, I will squee with delight.

SWEET BABY SLOTHS IT'S MY TURN TO RUN STUFF

So my availability is dumb and not conducive to running things on a school night and my week covers the 4th of July which means I'm going to be out of town drinking my weight in my company's competitors' beer but despite all that I am going to try my darnedest to run some one-shots for y'all bc I am a professional.

Shout out if you're available next Friday (the 27th) and/or next Sunday (the 29th) so I can start plotting the business. Those scenes will prob not involve much risk but wear clean underwear anyway.

If anyone's around tonight with the not-so-much-advance notice I can throw some shit at like 2-6 people. Something will prob explode if I run something tonight.

That is all!
