RE: denver happenings - errin - 07-17-2013 Whoops, I have not been keeping up on this at all. Apparently I missed out on announcing that we have a gay rodeo! And an arts festival happened in Cherry Creek. First! This Friday is July's 3rd Friday art walk, or the Collector's Preview. There are quite a few people out because it's summer and outside is the best side, but it's not as crazy packed as 1st Fridays. The Colorado Renaissance Festival is happening every weekend (Saturday and Sunday only) until the first weekend of August, down in Larkspur. There are jousts and comedy things and tons and tons of shops and meat on sticks and booze to be ingested. ((THERE'S AN ENDANGERED CAT SHOW?? I will probably go soon.)) The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is happening 6/27-28. This is a pretty awesome summer festival of the local Asian culture, with demonstrations from the Buddhist temple and various dance and martial arts organizations. Also, they row these neat dragon boats on Sloan's Lake. The Colorado Shakespeare Festival looks like it's going on until about mid-August. That sounds classy. I'm sure there are lots of other things going on that I've missed. July's a pretty happenin' month here! RE: denver happenings - errin - 07-29-2013 Apparently the Botanic Gardens has a summer concert series. Actually there's a lot of cool looking stuff some PCs might be interested in, particularly those gardening Mages. Summer Concert Series Wrote:We are proud to bring you another summer of spectacular talent and unrivaled outdoor ambiance. Tickets are still available for some of our concerts! See Bruce Cockburn, Josh Ritter, Shawn Colvin and Michael McDonald. Vinyasa, Violins, and Vino Wrote:A one or two night yoga class held at the Gardens. This Friday is also a free day at the Gardens. All the major science places have free days throughout the year, though I will be honest I make these up whenever I feel like it. And finally, this Friday is another First Friday for the Santa Fe Arts District. Bear in mind that it's summer, and lately the weather has been pretty fucking wonderful (if rainy occasionally, but the rains have kept us from having our usual end-of-July 100+ degree heatwave), so this will most likely be PACKED. The hours of these things are usually 6pm-9pm but they never ever ever stay within that time period. A lot of the galleries offer snacks, food, and champagne or wine and maybe beer (at least one place I know has a bar, but I forget which place it is). The food trucks are also out in force, and there is usually at least one awning covered sound system blasting beats at eardrum exploding decibels. It's pretty awesome. RE: denver happenings - errin - 07-30-2013 I was going to wait until it was closer to post about this, but then I saw this neat picture and couldn't help myself. The Perseid meteor shower is coming up! The skies of Denver are remarkably clear - you can see a lot of stars even in the middle of the city, and it gets even BETTER when you go up into the mountains. Something about being closer to the sky or something. That's right, it's visible everywhere, but you should all plan your visits to Denver for that weekend, just sayin'. RE: denver happenings - Samael - 08-13-2013 Some solid news for characters attending school at University of Denver: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08/12/university-of-denver-launches-free-mooc-course-in-comics-this-september/ RE: denver happenings - kai - 08-13-2013 [Psst. This is at CU Boulder, not DU. But still very cool!] RE: denver happenings - Samael - 08-13-2013 Whoops! it said University of Denver in the link. I was on my iTouch, didn't get a chance to actually read the article. Posting fail! RE: denver happenings - errin - 09-04-2013 Woo First Friday this Friday! And coming up very soon, Nan Desu Kan, Denver's big anime convention. NDK is kind of a big deal for nerds and geeks, although lately they've been getting a little more dickish about where people without badges can go (grump). Artist's Alley usually has some cool stuff from custom dice to webcomic artists to random jewelers (or at least there was when my friend whose wife makes jewelry and chainmail would go). If you don't want to put your characters inside the event, know that there will be people walking around in costume all over DTC. Put your character in Garcia's and mention the three Inuyashas sitting with Batman and one of the Resident Hill nurses. Or you could say some poor unfortunate soul booked a room in the Marriott and didn't realize it was the same weekend as NDK, and now they must deal with broken elevators and the pervasive musk of con funk. Or maybe an inventive storyteller will run a thang. When this is all going down: 9/13-15. RE: denver happenings - errin - 09-12-2013 Heads up! Due to the heavy amount of rain we've gotten over the last couple of days, Denver is flooding in areas. Mostly, it's the low-level places and places further east like Aurora. But it is happening. Oh sweet I found a link with information! RE: denver happenings - FadedNoel - 09-12-2013 Sorry I gave you all of Oklahoma's rain, Niko. :-( I'll try to undo that. RE: denver happenings - errin - 09-13-2013 Aw yeah, folks, it's Zombie Crawl time! (clickclick) When: October 19th Where: Starts in Skyline Park and then goes all over downtown, I think. What: Lots of people in zombie attire running amok downtown. Every year they shoot for being the largest zombie gathering in history, and I think they manage it or close to it. If some enterprising ST doesn't take advantage of this event I will be greatly disappointed! |
