A mood post is just another term for solo in-character posts that are made on the forums. Some people like to write them, some people don't. Basically think of it as like... the ongoing story of your character. Stuff that happens (or has happened) away from the other characters but that you would like to explore in your writing. A common example in mage would be like if someone wrote up a mood post of their character gaining a new level in a Sphere (not required but always nice to see.)
As for other questions, next time I see you online I'll try to grab you and we can go through everything you feel a little shaky on.
If you have aim (or one of the many 3rd party clients,) that's typically the best way to get a hold of me live, since I don't commonly log into the OOC room unless I know someone needs to talk to me. A lot of us like to use aim as a way to coordinate with each other during scenes and ping each other when we've posted, so I would recommend it as a good way to facilitate RP, but it's certainly not required if you're not a big aim person.
